Juggling School and House

Well, the semester is going : full speed ahead!! I have been running crazy trying to figure out how to juggle the house, kids, school, family activities, volunteer work, etc. -- but I think I am getting into the swing of things.   (It is that way for every college mom!) Got to love a schedule.  I get picked on but I have the electronic schedule and then, I also have to write down my to do list.  Hey, I am proud that I just recently moved to electronic in October, when Spence bought me the EVO pad for my birthday.

Along with everything else, I am working on trying to organize, "Angels Take Back the Night", which will be a candlelight vigil to help kick of Sexual Assault Awareness month at Meredith College in April.  I am really excited, and hope we can bring awareness to a very important topic.

Well, Ariel and I are off to the hair salon:  I am going to the "dark side".  I am leaving my red roots, and going brunette---  little nervous, but we will see how this goes! Pics to follow. lol

New Semester

Hahaha..... 2 posts last semester!!! Yeah, how did that work out for us? Ok, let's try this again, but I am taking 18 credit hours this semester so it will be even more insane so we will see! Today is the last day for the first week of the Spring semester, and how does it feel? RELIEF!!! I mean, seriously, I feel like one of the hounds they have turned loose at the race track.  I have three classes on each day Monday - Thursday, and then two on Friday.  I can handle that, however, the problem before me would be the extreme caseload of a social work research class where I am going to be gathering, conducting, etc. an actual study on my own (which is fine-- I love that stuff), on top of my Italian 2 class!  Ugh! (--->>que the deafening silence) . So I will take it like a woman, but in my Principles of Sociolgy class it is being based off of the Harry Potter films.  I have never seen or read the books so at first, I will admit, I almost jumped out of my own skin, but my daughter reminded me that I would not give Twilight a chance either and now I watch that with her.... hate when she is right! So here we go!

Let's see, oh I am also taking a Drugs and Society course which I think is going to be crazy interesting. First day, I learned women are getting high by putting LSD in their vagina!?!? WTW? Shut the front door!  I am 37, and I am proud that I have lived a sheltered life! lol.  I am taking a couple more social work courses and that is about it.

Family is great.  My daughter is in the middle of exams.  I can not believe she graduates in a couple of months.  I feel so old, but then again, she keeps me young!!  My son is struggling with his studies but I have faith in him! We bought him a Tap Out punching bag for Christmas. He was so happy! That was what he wanted. I guess at 16 it is good. Better the bag, than a wall, right?  Of course, like every family with the new year, we are striving for a healthier lifestyle.  We are redoing one of the rooms in the house into a workout / game room.  So I am excited about that.  I am starting yoga, and I am guessing anyone who knows my temper, would probably say that was a good thing.  But, I think I have mellowed some with age..... well, maybe a little!!  ;)

What a weekend!!

So, I have had this insane sinus infection for a couple of weeks and, like my ex-husband, it won't seem to go away!  I missed two day of classes last week, but I ended up having a nice weekend.  My husband took us out to Outback, and then we watched a Netflix movie.  BTW... Lincoln Lawyer is a great movie!! Great night, minus the insane asthma attack I had.  I felt like a cat trying to cough up a hair ball!!!~~ GROSS!!

Saturday we grilled out and streamed the unrated Bridesmaids movie.  I have seen that movie twice already, but I still laughed so hard!!  I mean, we all know the snotty little wench that tries to take over EVERYTHING!!  The unrated edition had some missed scenes, and they were pretty funny too.

Sunday, mom called and asked if Ariel and I wanted to go to a movie, while Spence was watching football.   Notice a theme for the weekend?  So, we went to see I Don't Know How She Does It.  I was not sure how it would be, but it was a pretty good movie.  We all have felt like the crazy mom, that needs 12 arms, so I could definitely relate.

So, today starts a new week.  Feeling better and heading to school.  We are prepping for midterms.  I have already looked at my schedule for this week, and oh yeah, it will be busy but it will go by fast! I hope.....

So, as I have previously said.... I am 36, married, and mom to two teenagers! I know, scares me sometimes too, but I love my kids dearly.   I also have a wonderful cocker spaniel, Tucker.   My daughter is a senior this year, and my son is a freshman.  I just started my Sophomore year in college, as I finish my Bachelor Degree in Social Work.  My poor daughter.... can you imagine how awkward that must be for her with her friends?!?! It's like, "so let me get this straight. You and your mom are BOTH going to be in college?"-- Talk about the family discount!

In class, it was recommended that we try to blog, so we learn to discuss life experiences, "putting yourself out there", etc.  So, here I am!  I am enjoying the college experience, but I feel so old around these young ladies. However, as my advisor says, I bring life experiences to the table. When we discuss important issues in society today, I feel I can contribute to the conversation due to what I have seen in the medical field and through life in general.

I was born from a very small town in S.C., and I am a down-to-earth country girl.  I can dress up when it is needed, but I love to be comfy in my jeans and top.  I like all types of music, but COUNTRY is in my blood.  Football season is serious in my house.  I am a Clemson fan, and my hubby is a Gamecock fan.  I am a Steelers fan, and hubby is a Packers fan.  See where I am going with this? Anyone that watches football, can imagine what our house was like during the Superbowl last year.  Trash talking is putting it mildly, but he was just allowed back into the bedroom-- right in time for the new season.

When I am not running a house, caring for kids, giving the husband some attention, playing with Tucker, or going to class I take my free-time (not much there) and volunteer for Interact.  Interact is an organization that helps men, women, and children of domestic violence and sexual assault.

So, there it is... a brief introduction of my life!  I look forward to exploring this new world of blogging, and sharing the funny, insane, and busy aspects of my life.
